Landon Sloan to visit Morehead Friday |
Lead | |
|
Per Alan Cutler, a link follows, but I think this may be a good fit for the young man.

My guess is he would be a walk-on but I dont know. If so that is a big time walk on who may not be a star but is good enough to help the team. I hope he comes
to MSU.

I posted this story on the blog page. My main question would be since there was a coaching change at Kentucky then would Sloan have to sit out a year? CJ Henry
who was a walk on at Memphis this past year is transfering to Kansas and will not have to sit out a year due to a coaching change. Sloan is the kind of player
that will start for Morehead. Also I think with Proffit and now maybe Sloan coming to Morehead that the attendence would rise a little bit because both are
from Eastern Kentucky.

Who is better, Proffitt or Slone? I would think this player suits what EKU does very well. Are they getting a visit also.

Slone is the better shooter, Ty is the better ball handler. I think over all Landon is a better scorer and has a better overall game but their games would
complement eachother.

A link from the Lexington paper. It says that Slone and Gillisipe were talking about a scholarship after the NIT was over. Also says he has spoken to Morehead State several times. Looking good for us right now. |

Having never watched Ty Proffitt play in person and only on video, its hard to say. I've wtched Slone in person several times and he'll be a solid
player on the OVC level should he end up with us. He's a smart player, fearless shooter, and brings a lot of hustle to the floor. I don't know where
the scholarship would come from...he may indeed have to walk on if he comes to Morehead, at least his first year. Adding him can only make us better, so
I'm hopeful it will work out and he'll be wearing our shade of blue soon.

How about adding A.J. Stewart
|
Since A J Stewart would have to redshirt next year, wherever he goes, How do you think he would fit into our program if he were interested in MSU? I know he
said on TV that he skipped some classes but his grades were good enough to transfer. I think he would be a good fit for the style of program that we have. It
would be nice to see both players come to MSU.

Not sure I like this, gang. Apparently he is/was all gaga over UK. Well, let him stay in Lexington and suck on the UK teet. Here, he'd be just one more
person walking down OUR campus with a UK shirt on. Again....I reference you east to Huntington, WV (Lil' Detroit). Walk down Marshall's campus with a
WVU shirt and see what kind of "greeting" you get. Or better yet, let some hot shot athlete state how he just always wanted to be a Mountaineer but
got stuck playing for Marshall. Yeah, that would go over well in Herd nation.
Best part of the H-D story was when he said he wanted to play in a NCAA tournament game. Well, Jack, looks like you picked the wrong school to begin with. As I recall, one of us played in that tournament while the other played in the NIT. We'll let Mr. Slone figure out which team is which.
(Yeah, I'm getting in my shots while I can before we get mauled next season by them) |

Slone does have a high school buddy in MSU baseball player Daniel Pugh. That may help bring him our way.
BB, I agree that we don't need anymore UK envy on campus, but from the Jerry Tipton interview I read, it seems like he's pretty upset with UK and Calipari right now, because Calipari for some reason refuses to even sit down and talk to him. The kid has talent and if he'll bring the same level of energy to MSU that he did at UK, then I want him. |

I am with Beaker on this. We don't need Kentucky rejects no matter if they are local or not. We already have Cory Clemens, Ty Profitt, Tyler Brown, Sam
Goodman, John Lamb and Terrance Hill don't we. How are they supposed to react when we keep over recruiting positions. You know this means someone else on
the above list will be chopped next year. At some time you have to make a commitment to the players you have that were recruited in good faith. How about some
big people as an option.

I have watched both and they are different type players. Proffitt is stronger and quicker and a better ball handler. Very long on defense. Coach saying he was
not that athletic was somewhat surprising. Very solid point at this level.
Sloan is more of a spot up shooter. Somewhat a liability on defense but desire overcome alot of shortcomings. Both these kids will be in the rotation if Sloan decides to come. Remember, their was a team not to long ago was 1 game from the final four with players somewhat of this caliber. Good players make good coaches! |

Proffit is, in my opinion, a better overall player but Slone a better shooter. Proffit I feel will play a bigger role if Slone comes but Slone is good enough
to be here and help the team. If you recall I thought we should have recruited him out of high school. To me, he is very similar to the Ferguson kid from
Elliot county who has decided not to play college ball. That is a more direct comparison to Slone than is Proffit. As I've said I think Ferguson could have
helped us and so could Slone but neither would/could be big stars like some seem to think. As far as over recruiting first off I would tell Slone that there is
no scholarship for him this year, (which I assume is the case and he probably already knows this) and he would have to walk on and if he shows he can be an
asset by his play in practice he will recieve one next year which I think he will. At that point the best player will play, period. If Slone is better than
Hill, Lamb, etc which I think is debateable but possible then I see no problem with bringing in a player that can help you. My question would be why we want
him now when apparently we didn't last year? Maybe the answer is now he is willing to walk on, at least for a year? If so we should take him. Just my
opinion. By the way I think he has to sit out this year regardless if he comes.
As for AJ Stewart we dont need him. He is a much better player than Slone and could be a great compliment to Kenneth when he gets eligible, which would be Faried's senior year. but he got into minor trouble numerous times at UK and now we find he was skipping classes. Not the kind of guy we need on the team. I know he was a top 100 recruit out of high school and showed some flashes at times at UK but most of the time his head was in a fog anyway. One other thing on Slone. Unless he improves a lot he is a terrible defender. Worse than John Lamb or Maze Stallworth who aren't very good either. So dont expect him to start if he comes no matter what he brings offensively. |

From the blog: "The other interesting tidbit was that Slone will get a scholarship at Morehead State, we are already over the limit. Wonder how this will
work out. Also the last question I throw out is will he be eligible to play next year since there was a coaching change at Kentucky and was kicked off the team
directly because of the coaching change?"
If in fact Landon comes here he will have to sit out a year. That rule only affects incoming players not current players. He can petition to get this waived since he only played limited minutes in about 5 or 6 games, but think it would be unlikely to see it waived. I heard Donnie speak about this and he said Landon would be a walk-on here, but things may have changed. |

Maybe this means that someone else is not eligible, or leaving......

One player leaving, Big Man Signing Soon
|
One of the new players (Brown) that sat out this past year will be going to Junior College, and expect the anouncement of a big man soon, Possibley two!!
Also, I was told that Sloan will be a walk on this year, but, things could have changed. Don't see him getting scholarship since we will be signing another big man. GO EAGLES |
